We have many volunteer opportunities to help FFN run smoothly and we offer them in shifts. This way you can volunteer and still enjoy the evening with your family.

Your Money at Work:  Field Trip Transportation

As an organization, we are thankful for the opportunity to support the social and academic experiences that occur at Centennial Elementary as well as field trips that extend learning beyond the walls of the school building.  This year, the PTO is providing every grade level with transportation funding for one field trip of their choice, totaling about $3,500.  By paying for the busses for these field trips, the out-of-pocket fees for our families are lowered and more opportunities open up for our students to be able to experience incredible learning in unique settings such as Sunflower Farm, Boulder Dinner Theater, Butterfly Pavilion, and the Colorado History Museum.  We wish to, once again, thank you for your support in making experiences like these possible for all of our students!

FAMILY FUN NIGHT – Save the date!  Centennial’s traditional year-end celebration, Family Fun Night, is coming up next month on Friday, May 12th, from 6-8 p.m. Whether this will be your family’s first time to attend this special event or you have been coming for years, we look forward to enjoying Family Fun Night with you!  So, what can you expect at this year’s event?  Here’s a sneak peek:

  • Games and Activities – This year, we will have a bounce house and an inflatable obstacle course, balloon twisters, a photo booth, a temporary tattoo station, and numerous carnival games like the ring toss and disc drop. There’s even a good chance that our local firefighters will make a stop at Centennial to show off their fire truck!
  • Food – Blackjack Pizza, popcorn, cotton candy, cold treats from Hau’oki Shave Ice, and more!
  • Prize Drawings – Wonderful local businesses are showing their support for Centennial by providing donations of gift cards and products that families will have the opportunity to win at the event with the purchase of tickets for the various prize drawings. These incredible business sponsors include: Cozy Barn Signs, Dizzy’s Family Fun Center, Little Monkey Bizness, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and many more!

Information about pre-purchasing wristbands (for games/activities) and tickets (for food and prize drawings) will be heading home later this month, so keep your eyes open for more information about this fun family experience that you will not want to miss!

Volunteer: Be a Memory Maker!

In order to make magical memories together at our upcoming Family Fun Night event, we are asking you to consider sharing some of your time to bring a smile to the faces of your fellow Husky families.  Between serving food, running games and activities, and various other needs, there are plenty of opportunities to help out.  For every shift you serve that night, your efforts will be rewarded with an entry into special “volunteer only” drawings.  Be on the lookout for online sign ups so that you can take advantage of this fun way to serve and also possibly win a great prize!  Let’s make some fun memories together!

Lights, Camera, Action! Staff Appreciation Week: April 24-28

We are getting ready to roll out the red carpet for our very special teachers and staff at Centennial Elementary. As we celebrate the stars they are during Staff Appreciation week, we are looking to partner with families in providing special meals and treats throughout that week.  A Sign-Up Genius link will be heading your way very soon to request various simple food donations that will help to create a star-studded celebration of our amazing all-star cast! Information will also be heading home soon in Friday Folders about special ways our students can show their appreciation for our incredible teachers and staff.

As a friendly reminder, staff favorites, from snacks to go-to places to shop, can be found on HERE!

April General PTO Meeting

At our March meeting, we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated Mrs. Gedeon along with some of her fifth-grade students as well as Mrs. Dufour as they provided presentations about the positive impact that PTO grants are having on their classrooms.  Our “Grants in Action” speaker series continues on April 11th at 6:30 p.m. with Centennial’s librarian, Mrs. Colvin, serving as our special guest presenter.  She will share how she is investing PTO grant money into much-needed technology in the library to benefit all of the students at our school.

Additionally, as this year is coming to a close, we are looking for individuals who would like to take on leadership roles in the PTO for the 2017-2018 school year.  There are many ways to get involved in making a positive difference in our school through this organization.  Our April meeting is a great time to come and learn about how you can find a perfect fit for where you would like to serve.

As always, our meetings take place in the school library, and free childcare is provided for ages 3 and up.  We start at 6:30 p.m. and strive to keep our meetings only an hour in length.  We hope you will join us for our remaining two PTO meetings this year!

KING SOOPERS RELOADABLE GIFT CARDS

We are so thankful that so many of you have requested and are using your Centennial Elementary PTO King Soopers Reloadable Gift Cards! If you are a regular King Soopers shopper, you need to make sure that you have this special card linked to our school. This card is different from, but can easily be used in conjunction with, the King Soopers savings card provided by the store. It is a FREE gift from the PTO that comes preloaded with $2.50 just to get you started. All we ask is that you use it every time you shop at King Soopers to purchase groceries and/or gas. The process to use it is very easy, and, for every purchase made using the card, our school receives 5% back! This is adding up to a great deal of money coming back to our school, over $2,000 so far this year, simply by Husky families shopping as they normally do. If you need more information or you need to get your hands on one of these cards, please stop by the office or email us at cnelpto@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting our school through this easy free money program!

SAVE THE DATE!

Family Fun Night 2017 With May in the not-so-distant future, plans are being made for our traditional year-end celebration, Family Fun Night! This year the event will be held on Friday, May 12th, from 6-8 p.m. This year’s carnival will include many of the favorite foods and activities that our families have grown to love over the years as well as some new fun features. More information will be heading your way about the event, but we wanted to give you a heads up now so that you can make plans to attend this fun family experience! At this time, are asking that you please consider supporting Family Fun Night in one or both of the following ways:

• Donations – Do you have a connection to a business or do you own a business (home-based or otherwise) that you would like to promote at Family Fun Night? The PTO is seeking out products and gift cards from various businesses that would like to be included in the evening’s special prize basket drawings. As a perk, all donations made are tax deductible, and it is a great, easy way to showcase a business to our Husky families. We are kindly asking that all donations are turned in to the PTO by Friday, April 21st. Please contact us at cnelpto@gmail.com with any questions, ideas,
and/or donations that you might have.

• Volunteering Time – Whether it is serving food, running a game, or overseeing an activity, we will need plenty of “hands on deck” to help make Family Fun Night happen. If you can spare some of your time to bring a smile to the faces of your fellow Husky families, we would love to have you join us as a volunteer. Your efforts will also be rewarded with an entry into special “volunteer only” drawings for every shift you serve that night. Be on the lookout for online sign ups so that you can take advantage of this fun way to serve and also possibly win a great prize!

Thank you to everyone who provided food for the staff meals and fulfilled teacher wishes during Parent Teacher Conferences in February! All of your donations were greatly enjoyed and appreciated!

Upcoming PTO Meetings
As part of our “Grants in Action” speaker series, we are excited to have several of Centennial’s very own amazing teachers and staff members serve as our guest presenters during the next three PTO Meetings. We invite you to come and support these incredible professionals as they share a taste of all of the great teaching and learning going on at our school.

Please mark your calendar for the following dates:

Next PTO Meeting – February 7th

You are invited to join us for our next PTO Meeting on Tuesday, February 7th, at 6:30 p.m. Please note that our venue will change to the Innovation Lab for that evening. We are fortunate to have Kimberly Wiggins, one of our district assessment coordinators, serving as our special guest speaker. Husky Spirit Wear – Round 2

Love and Logic Class
On Tuesday, February 28th, at 5:30 p.m., the PTO is partnering with Community Schools to provide a FREE “Love and Logic” class for any interested families who would like to attend. This session will focus on setting boundaries with our children and sticking to them. Additionally, this evening will include a pizza dinner and childcare will be provided. Keep your eyes open for more information that will come home about this special event.

Show Us How Much You “Like” Us!
In addition to the school Facebook page, our PTO has a standalone page as well, the “Centennial Elementary PTO” page. This is a great, up-to-date resource that our organization uses to keep Husky families “in the know” about what is going on with the PTO. Currently, we have a goal to reach at least 200 “Likes” by the end of February. We are slowly getting there, but we need your support! We hope you will help us achieve our goal by “Liking” our page and inviting others to join our social media outreach efforts. Just a couple of “clicks” will do the trick!

Staff Grants: Your Money at Work – As part of our commitment to provide our teachers and staff with the best resources possible to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of our students, this year the PTO has awarded $2,000 in staff grants. We are excited to see all of these wonderful resources put into use at Centennial Elementary. We are also looking forward to having all of this year’s grant recipients present at
our upcoming PTO meetings to share how this grant money is making a positive impact on our students and school.

Congratulations to the following grant recipients:
• Mrs. Colvin – 4 Chromebooks and 2 Kindles for the library
• Mrs. Dufour – New third grade math and science teaching materials
• Mrs. Gedeon – Flexible seating options, including a standing desk, wobble chair, and rocker chair

• Mrs. Sadler – Books to support the “In Focus” social-emotional curriculum school-wide
• Mrs. Spendlow – Assessment and teaching resources to enhance the first-grade math curriculum

Parent-Teacher Conference Meals
One of the biggest thanks we consistently receive from the Centennial staff is when our PTO families provide meals for them during the weeks of Parent-Teacher Conferences. While the online sign-up for the upcoming conference meals is filling up, we still have some areas where we could use your help. If you have not already done so, please consider signing up to bring something to help compliment the dinners and breakfast provided for the faculty during the next couple of weeks. Most items are easy to pick up at the grocery store and don’t require a lot of time, money, or energy on your part. These food donations do, however, make a world of difference in letting our staff know how much we appreciate everything they do for our kids on a daily basis. To sign up to bring something for the February conferences (February 9, 14-16), please check out the Sign-Up Genius link HERE or by clicking the Sign-Up Genius picture.

Teacher Wishes
Many school personnel at Centennial and all around the world spend a great deal of their own money on classroom supplies that benefit their students. Often, they do it out of necessity, but also because they love what they do, and they want the very best for the children whose lives they impact every day. During Parent-Teacher conferences, the PTO has asked all of the Husky staff members to provide parents and families with ideas about what kinds of things they need and/or wish they had for their classrooms. These wishes will be posted outside each classroom door.

As you are visiting the school in the next couple of weeks, please consider helping to fulfill the simple wishes of your child(ren)’s teacher(s). Small investments on your part in things like disinfecting wipes, clipboards, markers, etc. can be a huge help for our teachers and staff. Thank you for considering their requests!

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 13th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. As always, free childcare will be available during the meeting for children ages 3 and up. This month, in addition to our PTO business, we are fortunate to have Erin Murphy, Centennial’s Innovation Lab teacher and Gifted and Talented Liaison, as our special guest speaker. During her presentation, she will share information about the history of our school’s unique Innovation Lab and highlight some of her students’ favorite learning activities. So that meeting attendees can experience some of the exciting learning going on in the Innovation Lab firsthand, she will also bring some of the robotics they use in class. Additionally, Mrs. Murphy will be open to answer any questions that you might have about this exceptional program that our students experience on a weekly basis.

Holiday Happenings

Giving Tree – Thank you so much to everyone who has chosen to sponsor gifts for some of
our Husky families in need of assistance this holiday season. Please remember to return any
tags you have taken, along with the new, unwrapped gift(s) to the front office by
Monday, December 5th. Again, thank you so much for helping to spread some holiday cheer
with those who need it the most right here at Centennial!

Gift Wrapping – Do you enjoy wrapping gifts? If so, we would love your help between December 6th-13th to wrap Giving Tree gifts as well as class sets of gifts for our teachers to give to their students. We appreciate any time that you can donate on those days during school hours. Please stop by the front office, and we will put you to work!

Donation Request – In order to wrap all of the teacher gifts for their students along with the special gifts donated for the Giving Tree, we need your help collecting plenty of wrapping supplies, especially tape and wrapping paper. You are welcome to drop wrapping supply
donations off in the front office at any time.

Cocoa with Santa – Mark your calendar for this special Centennial Elementary tradition! On Thursday, December 8th, 5:00-7:30 p.m., Husky families are invited to come meet Santa, enjoy cookies
and cocoa, and participate in other fun holiday activities. The Centennial PTO joyfully sponsors this
free event. We look forward to seeing you there! We are looking for some cheerful folks who would
be willing and able to help out at the various stations during the Cocoa with Santa event. If you
are interested in finding out more information about these fun volunteer opportunities, please
send an email to cnelpto@gmail.com.

Staff Favorites

With the holidays rapidly approaching, we just want to remind you that Staff Favorites can now be
easily found on our PTO web site. From their favorite colors to their go-to sweet treats and everything else in between, we hope this will serve as a great tool for you to help support and, perhaps, do something special for the incredible people who do so much for our kids every day!

Fundraisers

Box Tops – Winter Contest! Worth 10 cents each! Please place the Winter Contest plastic collection bag that you receive on your refrigerator, and remember to place as many Box Tops in it as you possibly can between now and January 27th, the final day that Box Tops need to be returned to count for this contest. The class in each grade level with the most Box Tops turned in will receive a special popcorn party celebration at the conclusion of the contest! Additionally, there is a new “Box Tops for
Education” App that can be used to boost the value of each physical Box Top turned in. Please check it
out, and start using this valuable app!

Milk Caps – Worth 5 cents each! Please continue turning in Longmont Dairy caps to the new
collection bin near the school entrance. King Soopers Reloadable Gift Cards – We are giving away these cards for FREE to Husky families who will commit to using them when making grocery and gas purchases at King Soopers. For every purchase you make using the card, our school receives 5% back! To receive yours, please stop by the office or send an email request to cnelpto@gmail.com. You will receive a card and all of the information you need to use it right away!

Restaurant Spirit Event Our next Restaurant Spirit Event will be on December 15th through the Firestone location of Black Jack Pizza. The popular local pizzeria is graciously giving Centennial Elementary 20% of the proceeds from that entire day for anyone who makes a purchase through pickup or delivery and provides the special fundraiser flyer provided. This is a great opportunity to enjoy some delicious food and help support our school at the same time!
