KING SOOPERS RELOADABLE GIFT CARDS

We are so thankful that so many of you have requested and are using your Centennial Elementary PTO King Soopers Reloadable Gift Cards! If you are a regular King Soopers shopper, you need to make sure that you have this special card linked to our school. This card is different from, but can easily be used in conjunction with, the King Soopers savings card provided by the store. It is a FREE gift from the PTO that comes preloaded with $2.50 just to get you started. All we ask is that you use it every time you shop at King Soopers to purchase groceries and/or gas. The process to use it is very easy, and, for every purchase made using the card, our school receives 5% back! This is adding up to a great deal of money coming back to our school, over $2,000 so far this year, simply by Husky families shopping as they normally do. If you need more information or you need to get your hands on one of these cards, please stop by the office or email us at cnelpto@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting our school through this easy free money program!

SAVE THE DATE!

Family Fun Night 2017 With May in the not-so-distant future, plans are being made for our traditional year-end celebration, Family Fun Night! This year the event will be held on Friday, May 12th, from 6-8 p.m. This year’s carnival will include many of the favorite foods and activities that our families have grown to love over the years as well as some new fun features. More information will be heading your way about the event, but we wanted to give you a heads up now so that you can make plans to attend this fun family experience! At this time, are asking that you please consider supporting Family Fun Night in one or both of the following ways:

• Donations – Do you have a connection to a business or do you own a business (home-based or otherwise) that you would like to promote at Family Fun Night? The PTO is seeking out products and gift cards from various businesses that would like to be included in the evening’s special prize basket drawings. As a perk, all donations made are tax deductible, and it is a great, easy way to showcase a business to our Husky families. We are kindly asking that all donations are turned in to the PTO by Friday, April 21st. Please contact us at cnelpto@gmail.com with any questions, ideas,
and/or donations that you might have.

• Volunteering Time – Whether it is serving food, running a game, or overseeing an activity, we will need plenty of “hands on deck” to help make Family Fun Night happen. If you can spare some of your time to bring a smile to the faces of your fellow Husky families, we would love to have you join us as a volunteer. Your efforts will also be rewarded with an entry into special “volunteer only” drawings for every shift you serve that night. Be on the lookout for online sign ups so that you can take advantage of this fun way to serve and also possibly win a great prize!

Thank you to everyone who provided food for the staff meals and fulfilled teacher wishes during Parent Teacher Conferences in February! All of your donations were greatly enjoyed and appreciated!

Upcoming PTO Meetings
As part of our “Grants in Action” speaker series, we are excited to have several of Centennial’s very own amazing teachers and staff members serve as our guest presenters during the next three PTO Meetings. Each meeting will highlight two PTO grant recipients from this school year and provide them with the opportunity to share the positive impact that PTO grant money has had/is having on their classrooms and/or the school at large. We invite you to come and support these incredible professionals as they share a taste of all of the great teaching and learning going on at our school.

Please mark your calendar for the following dates:
March 14th – Mrs. Dufour and Mrs. Gedeon
April 11th – Mrs. Colvin and Mrs. Sadler
May 9th – Mr. McNeely and Mrs. Spendlow

These meetings will all take place in the library, and remember that free childcare is provided for ages 3 and up. We start at 6:30 p.m. and strive to keep our meetings only an hour in length. We hope you will join us for this special guest speaker series!

Next PTO Meeting – February 7th

You are invited to join us for our next PTO Meeting on Tuesday, February 7th, at 6:30 p.m. Please note that our venue will change to the Innovation Lab for that evening. We are fortunate to have Kimberly Wiggins, one of our district assessment coordinators, serving as our special guest speaker. If all of the various tests that our children take leave you confused or overwhelmed or you just want to learn more about all of these assessments, you won’t want to miss what Kimberly has to share. As always, remember that free childcare is provided for
ages 3 and up. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Husky Spirit Wear – Round 2
To help us show off our Husky pride and catch anyone who was unable to purchase spirit wear in the fall, order forms were sent home last week and are also available in the front office. If you want to take advantage of this year’s final spirit wear sale, please remember to return your form to school by Thursday, February 16th.

Love and Logic Class
On Tuesday, February 28th, at 5:30 p.m., the PTO is partnering with Community Schools to provide a FREE “Love and Logic” class for any interested families who would like to attend. This session will focus on setting boundaries with our children and sticking to them. Additionally, this evening will include a pizza dinner and childcare will be provided. Keep your eyes open for more information that will come home about this special event.

Show Us How Much You “Like” Us!
In addition to the school Facebook page, our PTO has a standalone page as well, the “Centennial Elementary PTO” page. This is a great, up-to-date resource that our organization uses to keep Husky families “in the know” about what is going on with the PTO. Currently, we have a goal to reach at least 200 “Likes” by the end of February. We are slowly getting there, but we need your support! We hope you will help us achieve our goal by “Liking” our page and inviting others to join our social media outreach efforts. Just a couple of “clicks” will do the trick!

Staff Grants: Your Money at Work – As part of our commitment to provide our teachers and staff with the best resources possible to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of our students, this year the PTO has awarded $2,000 in staff grants. We are excited to see all of these wonderful resources put into use at Centennial Elementary. We are also looking forward to having all of this year’s grant recipients present at
our upcoming PTO meetings to share how this grant money is making a positive impact on our students and school.

Congratulations to the following grant recipients:
• Mrs. Colvin – 4 Chromebooks and 2 Kindles for the library
• Mrs. Dufour – New third grade math and science teaching materials
• Mrs. Gedeon – Flexible seating options, including a standing desk, wobble chair, and rocker chair
• Mr. McNeely – Books for a “May Madness Sweet Sixteen Tournament of Books” project
• Mrs. Sadler – Books to support the “In Focus” social-emotional curriculum school-wide
• Mrs. Spendlow – Assessment and teaching resources to enhance the first-grade math curriculum

Parent-Teacher Conference Meals
One of the biggest thanks we consistently receive from the Centennial staff is when our PTO families provide meals for them during the weeks of Parent-Teacher Conferences. While the online sign-up for the upcoming conference meals is filling up, we still have some areas where we could use your help. If you have not already done so, please consider signing up to bring something to help compliment the dinners and breakfast provided for the faculty during the next couple of weeks. Most items are easy to pick up at the grocery store and don’t require a lot of time, money, or energy on your part. These food donations do, however, make a world of difference in letting our staff know how much we appreciate everything they do for our kids on a daily basis. To sign up to bring something for the February conferences (February 9, 14-16), please check out the Sign-Up Genius link HERE or by clicking the Sign-Up Genius picture.

Teacher Wishes
Many school personnel at Centennial and all around the world spend a great deal of their own money on classroom supplies that benefit their students. Often, they do it out of necessity, but also because they love what they do, and they want the very best for the children whose lives they impact every day. During Parent-Teacher conferences, the PTO has asked all of the Husky staff members to provide parents and families with ideas about what kinds of things they need and/or wish they had for their classrooms. These wishes will be posted outside each classroom door.

As you are visiting the school in the next couple of weeks, please consider helping to fulfill the simple wishes of your child(ren)’s teacher(s). Small investments on your part in things like disinfecting wipes, clipboards, markers, etc. can be a huge help for our teachers and staff. Thank you for considering their requests!

Ongoing Fundraising Opportunities

Box Tops for Education – Worth 10 cents each!
Thank you for your incredible support of our Winter Box Tops contest! McDonald’s night was also a huge hit with record crowds dining in and going through the drive-thru. The apple pie sales alone brought in $139.10 for our school, and we will soon find out about Centennial’s portion of the 20% of the total sales between 4-7 p.m. on our spirit night, which is sure to be incredible! Annual Fall Fundraiser

Wow! Because of the incredible support for our fall fundraiser, we were able to raise $24,000 for our school! This impressive total opens up doors for us to support Centennial Elementary at a higher level via staff grant money, field trip transportation, new technology, and so much more. Thank you for all of your efforts to make this fundraiser so successful!

Your Money at Work

One of our goals is to help provide quality, state-of-the-art technological tools for our staff and students to utilize daily in their classrooms. As part of our ongoing commitment to assist with fulfilling these needs, this Fall the PTO purchased a cart of 25 Chromebook Computers that will is dedicated for use by the first-grade team. Now, every grade level, except Kindergarten (which we aim to fund in next year’s budget), has a Chromebook cart readily available to use for classroom lessons, projects, research, and so much more. This is just part of the big picture of how PTO funds are being used to support the needs of our staff and students on a daily basis. Thank you for making this possible through your participation in our various fundraisers!

PTO Meeting

We are looking forward to our next meeting on Tuesday, November 8th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. In addition to our PTO business, we are fortunate to have our wonderful principal, Dr. Shirley Jirik, as our special guest speaker. She will be sharing information about the “In Focus” social-emotional curriculum that is implemented at Centennial. Please make plans to attend and learn more about how our school is reaching our children in significant ways beyond academics.

October Paw Print

Thank you for your amazing support of our fall fundraiser!  Your encouragement and excitement (and flexibility when we had more students needing Emoji Stackerz lanyards than we had originally anticipated!) about this opportunity to raise much-needed funds for our school made a big difference.  Our total earnings have not been finalized yet, but we are excited to see this money put right to work in funding field trip transportation, technology, staff grants, as well as other opportunities for PTO to support our wonderful school community!

The big Limo Ride and Pizza Party that a record number of our students will get to enjoy as a well-earned prize for the fundraiser will take place on Thursday, October 20th.  That is also the day that all fundraising participants need to pick up their orders and prizes after school in the gym.  Details about all of this will be heading your way as we get closer.

Your Money at Work

Our teachers, like countless other educators around the world, spend a great deal of money out of their own pockets to help support the learning going on in their classrooms.  To help lessen that expense, the PTO is happy to provide $50 for each staff member at Centennial Elementary to spend on classroom needs this year.  This is just part of the big picture of how PTO funds are being used to support the needs of our staff and students on a daily basis.  Thank you for making this possible through your participation in our various fundraisers!

PTO Meetings

We greatly appreciate everyone who attended our September and October PTO General Meetings!  We had incredible turnouts, and the presence and voice of our Husky parents was an important key to the success both nights.  It is our hope that these meetings will not only be informative, but also a means to cultivate a sense of community at Centennial.

We are looking forward to our next meeting on Tuesday, November 8th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library.  In addition to our PTO business, we are fortunate to have our wonderful principal, Dr. Shirley Jirik, as our special guest speaker.  She will be sharing information about the “In Focus” social-emotional program that is being implemented at Centennial.  Please make plans to attend and learn more about how our school is reaching our children in important ways outside of academics.

This year we are adding an incentive to help encourage attendance at our meetings.  The class with the highest number of adults in attendance at each meeting will be awarded a special PTO Husky Pup that will remain proudly in that classroom until the next meeting date.  Mrs. Couch’s class has won for both of our meetings so far.  Will it stay with her class or will it find a new home in November?  We shall see . . .

Thank you for your support in this delicious way!

Spirit Wear

To help us show off our Husky pride, order forms for spirit wear are heading your way.  Sample shirts in different sizes are available in the office to ensure the best fit possible when making selections.  Please return your completed form and payment to your child’s classroom teacher.  The deadline for turning the forms in is Friday, October 21st, and we look forward to a turnaround of about two weeks to have all orders fulfilled.

Grassroots St. Vrain

Thanks to Grassroots St.Vrain for being our guest speaker at  our October General PTO Meeting on October 4th. We all need the correct information! Below is one of the videos that we watched! If you missed our meeting this month and would like more information on what was discussed feel free to contact us and be sure to join us next time.

Please take a few moments out of your busy day to take a look at this video.

September Paw Print

Wow! We are so excited that the Fall Fundraiser is off to such a strong start! After our kickoff celebration on Tuesday afternoon, our students have been busy selling all kinds of amazing products from Big Kahuna. In addition to the kitchen items, cookie dough, wrapping paper, and so many other treasures that can be found in the booklet that was sent home, please remember to check out the online sales options to see over 500 products that are also included in our fundraising efforts.

With every item sold, students are eligible to win all kinds of fun prizes, ranging from Emoji Stacker Lanyards to a Limo Ride with a Pizza Party! We also want to point out a special opportunity for our Husky families this year. Families can choose to participate in a “Family Plan” in which all orders are placed on one order form. When the family as a whole (not each child) sells at least 20 items, ALL of the Centennial students in that family will be eligible to participate in the limo ride and pizza party. (If you choose the Family Plan, please remember that other individual prizes must be shared by siblings).

Remember that our ultimate goal is to raise at least $25,000 so that we can support the wonderful things happening at Centennial Elementary. Every student and staff member will benefit from this fundraiser, so we need your help to make our big dreams for our school a reality!

teacher-quote-2Thank you so much to everyone who completed and returned the PTO Volunteer Interest Form. If you have not done so yet, it is not too late to turn in the form or complete the online version on our website. We look forward to helping everyone get plugged in with volunteering!
