Next PTO Meeting – February 7th
You are invited to join us for our next PTO Meeting on Tuesday, February 7th, at 6:30 p.m. Please note that our venue will change to the Innovation Lab for that evening. We are fortunate to have Kimberly Wiggins, one of our district assessment coordinators, serving as our special guest speaker. If all of the various tests that our children take leave you confused or overwhelmed or you just want to learn more about all of these assessments, you won’t want to miss what Kimberly has to share. As always, remember that free childcare is provided for
ages 3 and up. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Husky Spirit Wear – Round 2
To help us show off our Husky pride and catch anyone who was unable to purchase spirit wear in the fall, order forms were sent home last week and are also available in the front office. If you want to take advantage of this year’s final spirit wear sale, please remember to return your form to school by Thursday, February 16th.
Love and Logic Class
On Tuesday, February 28th, at 5:30 p.m., the PTO is partnering with Community Schools to provide a FREE “Love and Logic” class for any interested families who would like to attend. This session will focus on setting boundaries with our children and sticking to them. Additionally, this evening will include a pizza dinner and childcare will be provided. Keep your eyes open for more information that will come home about this special event.
Show Us How Much You “Like” Us!
In addition to the school Facebook page, our PTO has a standalone page as well, the “Centennial Elementary PTO” page. This is a great, up-to-date resource that our organization uses to keep Husky families “in the know” about what is going on with the PTO. Currently, we have a goal to reach at least 200 “Likes” by the end of February. We are slowly getting there, but we need your support! We hope you will help us achieve our goal by “Liking” our page and inviting others to join our social media outreach efforts. Just a couple of “clicks” will do the trick!
Staff Grants: Your Money at Work – As part of our commitment to provide our teachers and staff with the best resources possible to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of our students, this year the PTO has awarded $2,000 in staff grants. We are excited to see all of these wonderful resources put into use at Centennial Elementary. We are also looking forward to having all of this year’s grant recipients present at
our upcoming PTO meetings to share how this grant money is making a positive impact on our students and school.
Congratulations to the following grant recipients:
• Mrs. Colvin – 4 Chromebooks and 2 Kindles for the library
• Mrs. Dufour – New third grade math and science teaching materials
• Mrs. Gedeon – Flexible seating options, including a standing desk, wobble chair, and rocker chair
• Mr. McNeely – Books for a “May Madness Sweet Sixteen Tournament of Books” project
• Mrs. Sadler – Books to support the “In Focus” social-emotional curriculum school-wide
• Mrs. Spendlow – Assessment and teaching resources to enhance the first-grade math curriculum
Parent-Teacher Conference Meals
One of the biggest thanks we consistently receive from the Centennial staff is when our PTO families provide meals for them during the weeks of Parent-Teacher Conferences. While the online sign-up for the upcoming conference meals is filling up, we still have some areas where we could use your help. If you have not already done so, please consider signing up to bring something to help compliment the dinners and breakfast provided for the faculty during the next couple of weeks. Most items are easy to pick up at the grocery store and don’t require a lot of time, money, or energy on your part. These food donations do, however, make a world of difference in letting our staff know how much we appreciate everything they do for our kids on a daily basis. To sign up to bring something for the February conferences (February 9, 14-16), please check out the Sign-Up Genius link HERE or by clicking the Sign-Up Genius picture.
Many school personnel at Centennial and all around the world spend a great deal of their own money on classroom supplies that benefit their students. Often, they do it out of necessity, but also because they love what they do, and they want the very best for the children whose lives they impact every day. During Parent-Teacher conferences, the PTO has asked all of the Husky staff members to provide parents and families with ideas about what kinds of things they need and/or wish they had for their classrooms. These wishes will be posted outside each classroom door.
As you are visiting the school in the next couple of weeks, please consider helping to fulfill the simple wishes of your child(ren)’s teacher(s). Small investments on your part in things like disinfecting wipes, clipboards, markers, etc. can be a huge help for our teachers and staff. Thank you for considering their requests!
Ongoing Fundraising Opportunities
Box Tops for Education – Worth 10 cents each!
Thank you for your incredible support of our Winter Box Tops contest! Volunteers are working hard to count all of the Box Tops that were turned in, and we are excited to see which classes will earn a popcorn party for bringing in the most for their respective grade levels. Even with this contest ending, please continue to send in Box Tops for the remainder of the year. Each one collected goes toward our reaching our $2,000 fundraising goal with the Box Tops program.
King Soopers Reloadable Gift Cards – For every purchase made using the card, our school receives 5% back!
Longmont Dairy Milk Caps – Worth 5 cents each!
Restaurant Spirit Events – Thanks to the amazing support of our Husky families, a generous donation of $300 was made to our school from Blackjack Pizza after our recent fundraising event! Wow! McDonald’s night was also a huge hit with record crowds dining in and going through the drive-thru. The apple pie sales alone brought in $139.10 for our school, and we will soon find out about Centennial’s portion of the 20% of the total sales between 4-7 p.m. on our spirit night, which is sure to be incredible! Keep your eyes and ears open for more fun spirit events coming up. Thank you for your amazing support of these restaurant fundraisers that also help us to build a strong sense of community and Husky spirit!
