“Happy Husky Holidays” Open House – Thank you!

Thanks to all of our amazing volunteers as well as all of our Husky families who participated, the “Happy Husky Holidays” Open House event was a huge success.  We thoroughly enjoyed the musical entertainment provided by our wonderful school choir, the “Husky Howlers”, under the direction of our great music teacher, Ms. Rogers.  We were also thankful for the work of Student Council members, with the guidance of their sponsor, Ms. Valdez, who organized over 700 food items that our generous Husky families brought in during the festivities.  Additionally, we were thrilled to partner with Mrs. Adams and the Mission Possible Kids Organization in providing a special Santa letter writing station.  For each of the 300 letters collected, Macy’s will be donating $2 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant the wishes of critically ill children.  In addition to the delicious cocoa and cookies and holiday crafts, we were also fortunate to hear some special stories shared by our own incredible Centennial staff members.  We greatly appreciate our amazing photographer for the night, Chris Tone, who captured your fun and fancy family photos.  These pictures will be returned to families in Friday Folders prior to the winter break.  Thank you, again, to everyone who played a part in this special kickoff to the holiday season!

Giving Tree Donations & Gift Wrapping

Once again, our Husky families went above and beyond in providing gifts for some of our families who need a little extra assistance this holiday season.  Generous donors claimed all of the tags, and the presents, along with teacher gifts for students, were all wrapped in record time by a special group of volunteers.  We cannot thank everyone enough for your participation in these efforts to provide a magical holiday experience for those who need it most right here at Centennial.

Planning Ahead:  Donation Request

If you like clearance shopping after the holidays, the PTO needs bows, bags, clothing boxes, tape, and other wrapping supplies for next year’s Giving Tree and staff gifts to students.  Many stores will have these items marked 70-90% off, so please keep the PTO in mind as you are stocking up.  We can store them at the school so you can send your donations to the front office at any time.  Thank you for considering this special request!

December PTO Meeting:  Focus on Safety

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 12th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library.  As always, free childcare will be available during the meeting for children ages 3 and up.  This month, in addition to our PTO business, we are fortunate to have Stacy Gahagen, the Security Manager for St. Vrain Valley Schools, as our special guest speaker.  We look forward to hearing her speak about the measures that are in place to keep our students safe at school.  This is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you have regarding this very important topic.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Staff Favorites – With the holidays rapidly approaching, we just want to remind you that Staff Favorites can be easily found on our PTO web site.  From their favorite colors to their go-to sweet treats and everything else in between, we hope this will serve as a great tool for you to help support, and perhaps, do something special for the incredible people who do so much for our kids every day.  Visit our site at www.ptocentennial.com/our-staff/staff-favorites/

Do you “Like” our PTO?

If you have a Facebook account, we want to encourage you to “Like” our Centennial Elementary PTO Facebook page, if you have not done so already.  Facebook is one of the communication tools that our organization utilizes on a regular basis to keep our Husky families “in the loop” about what is going on with the PTO.

“Happy Husky Holidays” Open House, Friday, December 1st, 5:30 – 8:00 pm

We are excited to offer a new twist on a FREE favorite family event at Centennial. Much like our previous holiday gatherings, we will provide delicious hot chocolate and cookies, crafts, teacher readings, and a photo opportunity for our Husky families to enjoy. We are also looking forward to partnering with a couple of our student organizations to highlight and support their talents and service. As part of the evening, families are encouraged to help kick off the Student Council Holiday Food Drive by bringing in donations. Additionally, Centennial’s choir, the “Husky Howlers”,  will be leading families in holiday songs throughout the evening. While Santa will not be at this year’s event, children will have the opportunity to write a special letter to the Jolly Old Elf as part of the festivities. We look forward to seeing you there!

We appreciate your support of this event and ask that you consider volunteering some of your time to help make this experience extra special. More information and sign-ups for volunteer opportunities will be heading your way soon!

Giving Tree & Gift Wrapping

In order to help provide a magical holiday experience for some of our Husky families in need of assistance, the PTO is sponsoring a Giving Tree in the library. Ornament tags with gift requests will be located in a box on top of the first bookshelf to the right upon entering the library. When taking the gift tags, donors need to record their information in the logbook found next to the box of tags. These gift requests will be available from Monday, November 13th, until Friday, December 1st. The tags need to be returned, along with the new, unwrapped gifts to the front office by Monday, December 4th. It is our hope that our Husky families will take advantage of this special opportunity to spread some holiday cheer to those who need it the most right here at Centennial.

If you enjoy wrapping gifts, we would love your help between December 4th – 12th to wrap Giving Tree gifts as well as class sets of gifts for our teachers to give to their students. We appreciate any time that you can donate on those days during school hours. Please check in at the front office, and we will put you to work!

PTO Partnership: MPK The PTO is excited to have a new partnership this year with Mission Possible Kids (MPK). Through MPK, several Centennial teachers, staff members, and volunteers are supporting our students in efforts to make a positive impact on the world around them through various service projects. This group is ongoing throughout the school year, and all Centennial students in grades 1-5 are invited to join in at any time. Mission Possible Kids meets two Fridays out of each month, and there is a $30 fee to cover the cost of the shirt and supplies.

To register online, please go to http://stvrain.revtrak.net (Elementary School > A-K > Centennial Elementary > CS Centennial Elementary Child Care and Enrichment > CS Centennial Enrichment Program > Mission Possible Kids).

For more information on helping your child become an “agent of change” with MPK, please contact Lindsay Adams at adams_lindsay@svvsd.org.

Restaurant Spirit Events – Our first two spirit events of the year were incredibly successful! Our school received a check for $408 from Blackjack Pizza, and between the apple pie sales/donations and food sales from our McDonald’s spirit night, Centennial raised over $700! We are SO thankful for your amazing support!

Mark your calendar now for our next two spirit events:

Texas Roadhouse in Longmont Wednesday, November 15th, 4-10 p.m. 15% of sales come back to Centennial!

Chipotle in Longmont Wednesday, December 13th, 4-8 p.m. 50% of sales come back to Centennial!

Box Tops for Education Worth 10 cents each! The fall competition brought in some amazing results from our Husky students. We had two classes that knocked it out of the park this time around – Mrs. Spendlow’s class turned in 821 Box Tops and Mr. Adelman’s class brought in 673 Box Tops!! These amazing totals have earned both classes a special prize for their efforts. So far our school has raised about $900 from this year’s Box Tops collections, and we are just getting started! Please continue clipping and collecting those Box Tops all year long. They really do add up and make a difference!

Longmont Dairy Milk Caps Worth 5 cents each! King Soopers Reloadable Gift Cards For every purchase you make using the card, our school receives 5% back!

Wow! Because of the amazing support for our fall fundraiser, we were able to raise over $24,500 for our school! Thank you for all of your efforts to make this fundraiser so successful!

We look forward to hearing her share information about flexible seating and focus tools that are having a positive impact on our Husky students.

As always, free childcare will be available, and we strive to keep our meetings no longer than an hour in length. We hope that you will join us!

Thank you! We greatly appreciate everyone who donated their time and/or delicious food for our staff to enjoy during the week of Fall Conferences! The meals were a huge hit, and it would not have been possible without your wonderful support! Also, a big thank you goes out to all of you who grabbed the teacher wishing stars that were displayed during Fall Conferences. Our teachers were overwhelmed by the amazing response of supply donations for their classrooms.

October Family Paw Print

We greatly appreciate everyone who attended our September and October PTO General Meetings!  We had incredible turnouts, and the presence and voices of our Husky parents were important keys to the success both nights.  It is our hope that these meetings will not only be informative, but also a means to cultivate a sense of community at Centennial.  In addition to always providing childcare for children ages 3 and up, all of our meetings include special guest speakers who focus on topics impacting our students and families.  As an added incentive to come, the class with the highest number of adults in attendance at each meeting will be awarded a special PTO Husky Pup that will remain proudly in that classroom until the next meeting.   Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the library.  We look forward to seeing you there! Annual Fall Fundraiser

We are so excited that the Fall Fundraiser is off to such a strong start! After our kickoff on Tuesday afternoon, our students have been busy selling all kinds of amazing products from Big Kahuna. In addition to the innovative kitchen items, pre-portioned cookie dough, reversible wrapping paper, tumblers, and so many other treasures that can be found in the brand new Holiday Classics brochure that was sent home, please remember to check out the online sales options to see over 500 additional products that are also included in our fundraising efforts.

With every item sold, students are eligible to win all kinds of fun prizes, ranging from “Stackimals” lanyards to a Limo Ride with a Pizza Party! We also want to point out a special opportunity for our Husky families this year. Families can choose to participate in a “Family Plan” in which all orders within a family are placed on 1 order form. When the family as a whole (not each child) sells at least 20 items, ALL of the Centennial students in that family will be eligible to participate in the limo ride and pizza party. (If you choose the Family Plan, please remember that siblings must share the other individual prizes.)

Remember that our ultimate goal is to raise at least $25,000 so that we can support the wonderful things happening at Centennial Elementary. Every student and staff member will benefit from this fundraiser, so we need your help to make our big dreams for our school a reality!

• “Stackimals” Lanyard Prizes will be handed out on September 1st, 5th, 8th, and 12th – 8:40-9:00 a.m.
• Fundraiser Order Forms and Money must be turned in by Tuesday, September 12th
• Limo Ride/Pizza Party AND Product/Prize Pick up will be on Thursday, October 19th

Following dinner, the PTO General Meeting will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the library. Childcare will be provided for ages 3 and up during the meeting. To ensure that we have enough food and childcare volunteers available, we ask that you please R.S.V.P. by Thursday, September 7th via the pink handout that went home and can be returned to your oldest Centennial student’s classroom teacher or online at http://tinyurl.com/Chick-fil-ADinnerPTO. If you are unable to come for dinner, but you still want to attend the meeting, please just show up in the library at 6:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

We look forward to helping everyone get plugged in with volunteering! Fall Conference Meals – One way that our organization strives to support our teachers is through providing meals during the week of Teacher Conferences. Fall conferences are coming up October 9th – 11th, so please keep your eyes open for a Sign-Up Genius invitation to participate and provide some delicious food for our incredible staff members.

Remember: Fridays are Spirit Days! Show off your school pride by wearing Husky spirit wear or our school colors every Friday this school year! New spirit wear will be available for purchase soon, so stay tuned!

Staff Favorites

We have an amazing staff at Centennial, and to help you get to know them better, we have requested a list of some of their favorite things, ranging from snacks to stores to classroom supply wishes. A binder with this information is available in the front office for you to view any time you wish. Additionally, this information can be found online on our web site at www.ptocentennial.com/our-staff/staff-favorites. We hope this helps you find ways to connect with, encourage, and support all of the wonderful people who daily invest in our children!

Ongoing Fundraising Opportunities

We have several opportunities available for families to help us raise money by doing and buying things that are already a natural part of our lives. All of the following fundraisers are easy ways for you to help us raise money for our school and achieve our goals. There’s not a limit as to how much we can raise by shopping, collecting, and dining out. Very little effort can equal a very big impact! There is huge potential for what this can mean to our school! Email us at cnelpto@gmail.com to receive more information about how you can get your own FREE family card.
  • Restaurant Spirit Events – Throughout the school year, the PTO will host spirit events at local restaurants. Centennial Elementary’s Annual Family Fun Night is Friday, May 12th, from 6:00PM – 8:00PM! In order to pull off a successful event, the PTO needs YOU! We have many volunteer opportunities to help FFN run smoothly and we offer them in shifts. This way you can volunteer and still enjoy the evening with your family.

Also, remember, for every shift you serve that night, your efforts will be rewarded with an entry into special volunteer/staff only prize drawings. If you are considering volunteering for more than one shift, we would ask you to please consider volunteering at one station for the entire evening. This will help with the flow and transition of volunteers and games for the evening.
